Citizens need an active voice in their local government. Elected and appointed officials must solicit input in decisions which impact neighborhoods as early in the process as possible. Planning and zoning decisions should make sense based on the existing development and quality of life for surrounding residents. I am not in favor of the Hope Tree rezoning for many reasons, and think that there can be a better plan for that site.
I have over 34 years of experience in local government and know how to creatively solve problems and look for better, more efficient ways to provide services. Salem can no longer afford to do things alone. As Chair of the Roanoke Valley Resource Authority, I was instrumental in convincing Salem to join the Authority, saving the City millions of dollars that would have been needed to upgrade the transfer station.
I know from experience that involving people with different backgrounds and different points of view always results in better decisions. The current comprehensive plan process doesn't allow for real input from citizens, instead allowing only for responses from a list of choices. This is another example of the City not really caring or including actual dialogue, which would lead to a better result.
I have spent my entire career working with citizens, staff, elected officials and other local governments to address issues in the most logical and cost effective way. I still interact with the elected and appointed officials of Roanoke City, Roanoke County and Vinton, and will be able work with them to find regional solutions to problems.
Salem has the second highest tax rate in the Roanoke Valley. We also have large projects facing us, such as the renovation of the Civic Center. We need to be creative in solving our financial issues, and reduce our reliance on property taxes from citizens.

“Anne Marie, with her knowledge of the law, also offers just plain common sense to make Salem the best it can be.” Marlene Preston
“The more I get to know Anne Marie Green, the more I believe she will make the best choice for Salem City Council. Even with high standards and a wealth of knowledge, she is relatable! We deserve a candidate for council that is honest, servant-hearted and has demonstrated a passion for Salem for the past 35 years. You’ve got my vote Anne Marie!” Karita Blackwell Knisely, Andrew Lewis alumni ‘72
I was very impressed with the candidate Anne Marie Green. She is experienced in all matters of municipal government, is familiar with the leaders in our neighboring jurisdictions and has a good idea of what issues are facing our government at this time. I will definitely vote for her.

The thing that struck me during our analysis gathering for Anne Marie was a bit of information that clearly had been out there for years, yet I'd never before heard it.
She has a degree in law! That's huge, and would be hugely advantageous for Council as decisions are made as to how the city should be governed.

“Anne Marie has years of experience, knowledge and dedication to her community. She knows how to do what needs to be done. It's Salems good fortune that she wants to work for us. Let’s be smart and hire her.”
